It’s becoming some kind of standard for Mercedes-Benz to reveal their latest AMG versions at the New York Auto Show. There’s a very clear reason for that, you’ll only have to look out on the roads in Manhattan and see that New Yorkers like Mercedes cars. This year is expected to be no different, with the 2010 E 63 AMG looking ready to make its debut at the oldest auto show in North America.
Mercedes has announced that the updated sports sedan will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show next month, with a 6.3 liter V8 whose output has been increased by eleven horsepower, to 525. The seven-speed automatic transmission from the SL 63 AMG is also installed, to handle the 630 Nm of torque. The increase in power is accompanied by suspension improvements as well.
Pricing for the E 63 AMG is expected to be around 90,000 euros when it goes on sale later this year in Germany. An estate/wagon version is also expected to make its debut in the fall at Frankfurt.
For the first time we have a video showing the new S-Class Coupe in action during harsh winter testing. The big two-door was caught on camera about 100km from Arjeplog in Sweden. Much of what could be disguised is left out in the open and all that is left under the covers are the bonnet, the front lower grille and parts of the rear end. Presumably these are the areas where most changes were made.
The S-Class Coupe is the new name given to the successor of the old CL-Class which was essentially an S-Class with two doors. Mercedes-Benz seems to be reducing the number of model names the public has to remember when it comes to its range of cars.
It is expected to share a similar range of engines as the S-Class sedan. That means engines like the 5.5-litre petrol V8 and 3.0-litre turbo diesel motor will be on the buyers’ menu. A BlueHybrid engine could also be included since the S-Class is getting one later this year. Of course an AMG version will break cover as is tradition.
Mercedes has released a new commercial showing their 2010 E-Class sedan which reveals that no matter what you drive, you’re still not good enough to date your other parent’s daughter.
Seeing that Mercedes is so quick to point out the greenness of their new model, we’d be careless if we didn’t tell you that the new E-class boasts three brand new four-cylinder diesel engines that feature common-rail direct injection, fast piezo-electric injectors, improved exhaust gas recirculation and twin turbochargers. The petrol engines also feature improved fuel efficiency by up to 20%.
For those who don’t care much about green driving, there will also be a new E63 AMG for sale.

These are the clearest pictures yet, which show the second-generation CLS in motion. AutoExpress has managed to capture the forthcoming version of Mercedes’ CLS four-door coupe while testing.
Although most of the car is still hidden, the headlights, rear lights, side mirrors, tyres and roof are all visible, allowing us to begin to build a clearer picture of what the CLS will look like when it arrives.
Under the bonnet you can expect a wide range of engines, including a new BlueHybrid version and of course the range topping CLS63 AMG with a power output expected in excess of 500bhp.
ASMA Design reckons they have perfected the art of tuning, a Mercedes-Benz SLR 722. ASMA calls this black supercar the Perfectus SLR. Using carbon fiber material for the body and a 5.4-litre V8, ASMA has been able to draw out a maximum power output number of 515kW (700hp) out of the SLR. Torque is 885Nm made at 3,300rpm. McLaren Mercedes-Benz themselves could only manage 478kW (650hp) from the same powerplant out of the SLR 722 Edition.
The standard 5-speed automatic gearbox is connected to the Perfectus with performance figures stated as 3.5 seconds for the 0 - 100km/h sprint and 348km/h for the top speed. ASMA says the car will return an average fuel consumption of 19.8 litres per 100km.
The custom carbon fiber bodywork has been used to the effect of not only keeping weight down but also showing how the material can be sculpted with sharp lines and slits particularly at the front. These bodylines are apparently F1-inspired, but in what way - we don’t know…

Carlsson has finally released details regarding the amazing SL CK63 RS which first debuted at the Essen Motor Show.
The new tuner car is based on the Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG, with a reworked V8 engine to produce 600 bhp and 705 Nm of torque. The SL CK63 RS shoots to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds while the fore mentioned SL 63 AMG is a little slower at 4.5 seconds. The vehicle’s top speed has been increased to 325 km/h (202 mph).
Carlsson engineers also threw in several other performance minded changes including an electronic lowering C-Tronic suspension, a high-performance carbon composite braking system, and ultra light 20-inch wheels outfitted with high-performance Dunlop SP SportMaxx tires.
German pricing starts at a rather pricey €272,500 - but what can you expect from cars as exclusive as this.
Mercedes-Benz’ in-house tuning division, AMG, has decided to turn with the popular tide and stop the horsepower tuning, with AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg saying, “We are going to use other ways to extract better performance, including weight saving, engine optimization and alternative technologies.”
The new Mercedes E63 AMG will be lighter than the outgoing model and have the option of the manual wet-clutch gearbox first seen on the SL63, in order to provide more grunt with better economy.
Mornhinweg confirmed that the company was looking at producing a smaller AMG model. It was also suggested that Mercedes’ diesel, hybrid, and four-cylinder engines may be re-engineered for AMG performance.

A WorldCarFans has caught the first pictures of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E Class Coupe pretty much uncamouflaged. In particular the taped up AMG logo on the boot suggests that this is actually the AMG version we have in front of us. AMG models are generally characterised by quad exhausts, which is where we get slightly confused: this prototype has twin exhausts, as seen on the previously leaked photos of the E-class sedan.
The E-Class Coupe will debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show as well as the sedan variant, the cabrio. The AMG versions are planned to follow later in the year in Frankfurt.
Mercedes-Benz has released a video showing the SLR Stirling Moss ahead of its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The video clearly shows how past and present come together in this car. The car is named after the legendary British racing driver Sir Stirling Moss, and the new SLR shows a remarkable resemblance to the classic racer.
