This new MINI features a new engine, which was developed by BMW in a joint project with Peugeot. In fact, a similar variant is found in the 207 and 207 GTi with great performance results.

The 1.6 liter engine is available in two forms: there’s the standard 120 hp in the MINI Cooper Cabrio and as a Twin-Scroll turbocharged 175 hp in the MINI Cooper S Cabrio.

The car offers a standard six-speed manual gearbox or buyers can opt for the six-speed automatic. BMW promises an improved ride over the previous model thanks to new wheel suspension, precision electromechanical steering and toughened braking.

BMW is also working gizmo packages, offering things like a USB connector for music players, Bluetooth hands-free telephony, and the now standard, me-too, iPhone compatibility of this new MINI. - Also read the Press Release with all specifications after the break -

Take a look at the brand new MINI E – the first electric model to come from the famous British marque.

Instead of rear seats, the MINI E is stacked with 5,088 cells of lithium-ion batteries which power an under-bonnet engine generating an impressive 201bhp and 220Nm of torque.

That means a 2.5 hour charge from a the mains gives the MINI E a range of 150 miles. What’s more, the 0-62mph sprint takes 8.5 seconds and the top speed is limited to 95mph.

Braking recharges the batteries too, while the air con and alternator work only when needed to save precious volts. And despite the fact it weighs 1,465kg – 330kg more than a standard MINI One – BMW reckons it’ll still be as sharp to drive thanks to recalibrated suspension and traction control.

The initial run of 500 cars – all sporting this grey and yellow get-up – are all earmarked for the USA, where they’ll be leased to specially-selected customers. They have to be looked after by specialist dealers too, with regular servicing required every 3,000 miles.
