Porsche Panamera: officially unveiled at Shanghai Motor Show
Porsche’s press release of the Panamera’s world debut reads:
Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, presented the Panamera to the world public today at the 13th Auto Shanghai. Joining the 911, the Cayenne, and the Boxster/Cayman, this new four-door Gran Turismo is Porsche’s fourth model series, with three variants entering the market in Germany on 12 September 2009. The Panamera is making its debut as an eight-cylinder delivering 400 and, respectively, 500 horsepower and with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, a six-cylinder gasoline model and a hybrid version following later.
Klaus Berning, Executive Vice-President Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, expressed a clear view at the world debut of the Panamera: “Introducing the Panamera, we are entering a market segment completely new for our customers and we are once again consistently expanding our model portfolio.”
Through its design and looks alone, the Panamera clearly stands out from the competition at very first sight. Like no other car in its class, it offers a truly unique combination of sporting performance and luxurious comfort. Despite its low and sleek silhouette so typical of Porsche, the Panamera, measuring 4.97 metres (195.7″) in length but only 1.42 metres (55.9″) in height, ensures a generous feeling of space on all four seats.

Porsche 911: Mansory tuning programme

German tuner Mansory is now offering a tuning program for the Porsche 911.
The program mainly focuses on improvements concerning the aerodynamics, engine performance and handling of this sports car icon, but as with any Mansory product the cars can be designed to meet a customer’s every whim.
When developing the 911 program, Mansory engineers attached great importance to an individual design but also aerodynamic efficiency. The core part of the bodykit is a lift-reducing front bumper. In connection with the hood, this bumper offers various design possibilities. A matching rear bumper is also available, and accommodates a new quad-pipe exhaust system.

Gemballa Mirage GT Carbon Edition

Reworking a Carrera GT is one of those things that likely takes longer than you think. It’s hard to tinker with a Porsche like this and expect to improve it easily.
What we do know is very little. The claim is that the Mirage GT Carbon Edition will have 670 hp and be able to full sprint at 335 km/h (208 mph). 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is said to be reached in 3.7 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h comes in at 9.7, shaving 0.2 off the clock from the standard Carrera GT in both.
The name ‘Carbon Edition’ can only mean that Gemballa has put the Carrera GT on a serious diet through extensive use of carbon fiber parts and ceramic brakes. Although, that mere 0.2 seconds improvement in acceleration doesn’t necessarily jive with an exceptionally high weight reduction.

Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid to arrive in 2010

Good news for the hybrid fans. Porsche will release the new Porsche Cayenne S hybrid in 2010. Despite being able to go 0-100 km/h in under 7 seconds, the company claims it will have the same fuel economy as a four-cylinder. Porsche says they will use a similar system on the new Porsche Panamera hybrid after the model is officially introduced.
Also good news is that Porsche says the hybrid powertrain barely affects the design of the Cayenne. They installed the system without compromising interior and luggage space.
Unfortunately, Porsche did not reveal the exact efficiency details for their car. However, they anticipate the car will be officially rated at using less than nine litres of fuel per 100 km, or about 26 mpg (US) combined.
The vehicle uses a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from Audi. The direct injection engine features 333 horsepower and a maximum of 324 ft-lb of torque. Its hybrid partner is a three-phase synchronous electric motor that dishes out 52 hp and 221 ft-lb of torque. The motor doubles as the alternator, and gets its juice from a 38 kW NiMH battery that weighs in at 154 lbs (70 kg).
Porsche claims that the “Cayenne S Hybrid is expected to emit some 20 percent less C02 than comparable combustion engine vehicles with similar power output.” This is due to the three hybrid settings utilized by the car: combustion engine and electric motor together, engine only, and electric motor only. The automatic transmission triggers engine ignition within 300 milliseconds of the driver’s tap on the accelerator. When the engine is running, it sends a recharge to the battery, as do the regenerative brakes when the vehicle is slowed down.
