Unfortunately BMW has confirmed the news that is has cancelled further development and production of the BMW Z4 M.
The German car manufacturer said the economic downturn and a lack of customer interest in the model ruled out going forward with an M version of the Z4.
Strangely enough, the company is going forward with the X5 M and the X6 M and a whole host of new products that are large, expensive and not very economical on fuel costs.
Therefore, the lack of customer interest in the model - rather than the crisis- is perhaps the main reason for killing the M-powered roadster. Although it remains hard to believe, there is one consolation prize: the Z4 will get an M Sport package, just like the 135i.
Over the past days, BMW has released a couple of videos about their all-new 2009 Z4 Roadster. Like before, Head of Design Adrian van Hooydonk discusses the exterior design of the new model. We’ve also found a video showing just the interior design of the new model. See this second video after the break.
It’s taken a while, but the mistery around the new 2009 BMW Z4 is all gone now. The first uncovered photo has been leaked onto the web. Looking at the picture, the car apparently was photographed in a BMW showroom somewhere before its official unveiling, on December 15th.
While the new alloys are very nice, the sharp lines and curvy hood are a bit too much for our liking and the new headlights don’t look all that great either. But we’ll wait for the official photos, they could very well change our minds completely…
