First official video: 2010 Mercedes E-Class Convertible

no comment Posted by onlydreamcars

Whether it was intentional or not, Daimler has just released this video of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible ahead of any other official announcements.

The E-Class Convertible exterior design is not much of a surprise as spy photos have practically shown the vehicle in its entirety. Despite the anticlimactic debut, these official videos still manage to give us a good look at the final E-Class range model.

The first video gives a general overview with some driving scenes.  Close observation reveals the hidden rollover protection behind the headrests. Via cute dog with flappy ears, the second video demonstrates the convertible’s new AirCap system.  Innovated by Daimler, the system consists of a windshield mounted spoiler that ariculates to control the air flow through the cabin when the top is down.  When the AirCap is deployed it gives the E-Class Convertible draught-free open top convertible experience for all four seats.

The E-Class Convertible arrives in showrooms in spring 2010. Seven diesel and gasoline engines ranging from 125kW (170hp) to 285kW (387hp) will be available at launch.

Mercedes has released a new commercial showing their 2010 E-Class sedan which reveals that no matter what you drive, you’re still not good enough to date your other parent’s daughter.

Seeing that Mercedes is so quick to point out the greenness of their new model, we’d be careless if we didn’t tell you that the new E-class boasts three brand new four-cylinder diesel engines that feature common-rail direct injection, fast piezo-electric injectors, improved exhaust gas recirculation and twin turbochargers. The petrol engines also feature improved fuel efficiency by up to 20%.

For those who don’t care much about green driving, there will also be a new E63 AMG for sale.

While Mercedes had originally intended for the 2010 Mercedes E-class photos to be released in January 2009, an insider has leaked the official press photos on to the internet a couple of weeks early.

Since 1995 the E-class can be recognised by its 4 round front lights. This new model also has 4 lights, though they are slightly more squared.  The E-class appears to have taken some design features from the smaller C-class, in particular the sharper lines across the doors. The day-time LED lights are new for Mercedes, as are the blind spot and lane departure warning technologies.

Engines are available in four, six, or eight cylinders - both diesels and petrol versions. There is also a greener version available with the 350 BlueTec diesel, with a the other end of the spectrum the AMG powerhouse generating 600 bhp.

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-class shall be officially revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.
