Tips for booking a rental car

Booking a rental car in an agency for your vacation means more freedom and options for leisure activities. The reservation can be made online. It is therefore possible to compare prices and services of the owners. In order to ensure that traveling with the rental car can be done without any problems, there are a few factors to take into account.

Choose a rental car and compare prices

If the rental car from an agency is booked online, you can take advantage of a quick and convenient price comparison. First of all, you need to think about the car that meets your needs. Is it a convertible, a family station wagon or an all-terrain vehicle? How many people should there be in the car? Once these questions have been clarified, you can compare prices from suppliers. The lessor can save money when booking by using a common voucher, for example for a cheaper rental car. The value of the voucher is redeemed directly when booking online. If you wish to book a rental car in a professional agency, you usually need to present a valid national driving license. Some countries such as France also require an international driver's license. The price of the reservation is also paid by credit card. If you use a credit card, you will not have to worry about checking your creditworthiness. However, be aware that some car agencies will block some funds on the card until you are finished with the car.

Inspect the rental car before you drive

Before the trip with the rental car from France begins, the vehicle to be rented should be closely examined. It is recommended to make the tour with an employee of the rental company. If there is any damage, e.g. paint damage, this must be recorded. Thus, such damage cannot be charged to the renter. If the car has serious defects that cannot be repaired immediately, it must be refused. It is preferable to demand an intact vehicle.

You should also pay attention to the following points

The rental car can only be driven by the lessors who are registered as drivers in the rental contract. If a second person must be allowed to drive the car, this person must also be included in the contract. For most rental agencies, the driver must be at least 21 years old. Today, although mileage limits are no longer common, you should make sure this is stated in the contract. If the prescribed kilometers are exceeded, it can often be very costly. The contract should clearly state the total price to avoid hidden costs. Usually the rental car is given back with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank. Try not to rent a car at the airport. It's easy to get a car there, but what you may not realize is that you will end up paying for the right to take the car in the moments after getting off the plane. Rental companies can't do anything about this because they are required to collect and pay these fees at the airport where they operate. You can get around this fee by simply calling a cab to take you to a car rental store that is not located on airport property. This is a trick that many car rental companies are not familiar with.

Supplementary insurance for the rental car abroad

Abroad, the rules of the country concerned apply. If the lessor causes an accident and only the minimum insurance sum has been agreed upon, the additional costs must be paid out of his own pocket. For this reason, it is advisable to first ask your own car insurance company about the insured amount for trips abroad. If there is no extended insurance coverage, the so-called "Mallorca" policy can be taken out for the duration of the stay abroad. This increases the amount of coverage and, in the event of an accident, the insurance company pays the costs. This additional insurance is valid in Europe. It is not linked to a stay in Mallorca, as one could deduce from its name. The cost per month of this additional insurance is affordable and is offered by some car rental companies, among others. For travel to countries outside Europe, it is possible to take out a travel insurance policy valid worldwide. In the event of an accident, the policy must be notified and the course of events must be recorded. The protocol must be signed by all parties involved and then notified to the car rental company.
